SICILIAN VOLCANOES

Visiting Stromboli
Stromboli had erupted a few weeks prior to our visit and was not considered safe at the top. Our walk was therefore limited to around halfway up. It was emitting periodic outbursts of thick smoke rather than its usual outbursts of lava bombs.

This was the leisurely beach scene we arrived to

The streets are narrow and the only vehicles on the island resemble golf buggies

This church occupies a dramatic position in the town

Before the smoke outburst

After the smoke outburst

After another smoke outburst

Long after another smoke outburst

This panorama of the town was from as high as we were allowed, given the prevailing circumstances

This is the pier at which our hydrofoil arrived and departed
