The English Lake District is the most beautiful natural terrain I know. In 1990 I was fortunate enough to be able to come to live here permanently and walk the Lakeland fells to my heart's content. This site is dedicated to all those who explore the area on foot.

  • The site contains detailed descriptions of over 40 walks. The outlines of the walks and links to the details can be found on Walks Index page.
  • There are well over 300 photographs, almost all of them being directly related to the walks. Links to them appear within the detailed description pages, but for an index of them all see the Photo Index, Highlights, Links and Jottings page. This also contains a summary of highlights of the walks with star ratings for their quality and difficulty, a facility to contact the writer, links to other Lake District web sites, and assorted jottings.
  • If you are new to this site, try following one of the walks, downloading the photographs when you reach them in the text. A good example is the walk over Catstye Cam & Helvellyn.
  • Fourteen of the best pictures appear in the Lake District Walks Screen Saver which is free.
  • There are also screensavers of my pictures from Peru, Ethiopia and from Egypt here, which are also free.
  • You'll find other visitors' comments on the site and on Lakeland in the Visitors' Book.
  • The author is not able at present to guide over the fells (pressure of work) but the page on walkers' responsibilities has useful information on equipment, food & drink and suchlike.
  • If there are particular locations you are interested in, there is a Site Search Engine which will find all occurrences on the site of your chosen words/names.
  • A Walk Distance Calculator and GPS Section provide navigational assistance including grid coordinates for key points on all the Lakeland walks.
